mixing in some states, such as Texas. During spawning season each February through April,
black crappie males turn truly black, while females are a more mottled black-and-white like the
specimen pictured above. Others from dark, tannin-stained lakes may be a speckled green and black.
Both species are always a favorite on the table when fried in cornmeal. |
